Honey Farm Tour

I realized after I took this picture how creepy those bears look.  It probably would have helped if I'd taken them out of the plastic bags but I'm lazy.  So there will just have to be a creepy army of honey bears staring at me from my kitchen counter instead.

Because that's definitely better than the effort it would have taken to remove them from the bags to get a decent picture.

I wanted to try and fit at least one more field trip in before the holidays and impending cold weather are upon us.

Not to mention the Raging Pandemic.

We recently learned about farms, farm animals and bees in our homeschooling, and my googling led me to Hunter's Honey Farm.  It sounded perfect!

Nana and Papa were excited to join us on the adventure and it was less than two hours for each of us to drive to get there. It's off the beaten path South West of Indy, but definitely worth the trip.  There are a variety of tours to choose from and I decided that the Worker's Special sounded the most all-inclusive.

Our guide, Ben, gave us an informative and thorough tour of the facility. He did a great job keeping things interesting for the wide variety of ages in our group (it was just our family).

I think he was especially impressed when the youngest ones knew their bee facts.

The tour included an explanation and demonstration on making beeswax candles and afterward, we each got to try our hand at rolling one of our own.

We also got to bottle our own bear of honey complete with custom label.

We all thoroughly enjoyed our visit to Hunter's Honey Farm and learned a lot. If you're in the Indianapolis area, I highly recommend it!
